How Overnight Vision Correction Works

If you live with myopia (also known as shortsightedness or nearsightedness) you may have heard of overnight vision correction as an alternative to laser eye surgery. This is not, in fact, a new therapy. Orthokeratology, or Ortho-K has been around for over 50 years, with continual improvements and developments in lens manufacture and corneal mapping instrumentation.

Ortho-K lenses are carefully fitted to reshape the cornea overnight, then removed in the morning so that you can enjoy clear vision throughout the day without wearing anything. With overnight vision correction, Sydney locals can gently reshape their vision, and enjoy day-to-day and sporting activities without the need for contact lenses or glasses.

Overnight Lenses in Sydney

Ortho-K lenses may be used to treat low to high myopia, astigmatism, hyperopia and presbyopia, however any treatment is only undertaken after a thorough examination and assessment by an orthokeratologist to determine the suitability of treatment with overnight lenses. Sydney residents wishing to undertake orthokeratology treatment will have customised lenses manufactured after this initial consultation, and lenses may be adjusted as needed within an initial 3-month fitting process.

Corneal Reshaping Treatment

An initial pair of Ortho-K lenses will provide corneal reshaping treatment for up to 12 months, after which period the lenses must be replaced. Because corneal refractive therapy is a non-surgical procedure, it does not permanently alter the cornea, and vision will return to normal 72 hours after discontinuing treatment. For adults this usually means that Ortho-K lenses will be worn every night for as long as they wish to experience the benefits of going contact lens and glasses free during the day. With corneal refractive therapy, Sydney locals can have greater control over and participation in the maintainance of their eye health.
