Myopia Control
Discuss overnight lenses as part of an individual myopia-management plan.

At a glance: Ortho-K may form part of an individual myopia-management plan. These overnight lenses temporarily reshape the corneal surface. Suitability, lens hygiene, follow-up and infection risks need discussion; results are not guaranteed.
Orthokeratology
Individually fitted overnight lenses
Temporary reshaping of the corneal surface
Daytime vision assessed during follow-up
Rigid gas-permeable lenses designed for your corneal shape
Potentially less reliance on daytime glasses or contact lenses
A non-surgical option with its own lens-care requirements and infection risks

Myopia Control in Sydney
Myopia management aims to limit progression during the years when the eye is growing. Ortho-K can slow axial eye growth in many children, but the response varies and treatment does not eliminate future eye-health risks.
Assessment considers age, prescription, progression, corneal shape and eye health. Discuss how prescription and, where available, axial length will be recorded and compared over time.
Ortho-K is one option alongside specialised spectacles, myopia-control soft lenses and atropine. Each has benefits and limitations; some children may need a different or combined approach.
A child and their carers need to be comfortable with lens handling and the review schedule. Ask about cost, adaptation, backup vision correction and access to advice between appointments.
Control Methods
Clear daytime vision alone does not establish that myopia progression has stopped. Review visits help assess the lens fit, corneal health and the child’s longer-term response.
If progression continues, the clinician should reassess the plan. Do not increase wearing time, change lens products or add medication yourself.

Your Ortho-K questions answered
Does clear daytime vision mean eye growth has stopped?
No. Ortho-K changes corneal focusing, so visual clarity and control of eye growth are different outcomes. Continued professional monitoring is needed.
How is a child’s treatment plan reviewed?
The clinician considers vision, lens fit, eye health, adherence and progression measurements. The plan may be adjusted when response or practical needs change.
